Watertown Recreation Taking Applications for Part-Time, Seasonal Staff

The Watertown Recreation Department is now accepting applications for the following positions for the 2022 calendar year. This includes immediate employment as a part time member of the staff throughout the year or seasonal work during different seasons of the year. Applicants must be entering the 9th grade (Fall 2022) or older to be considered. Positions Available: Program Directors, Program Supervisors, Program Staff, Program Counselors, Counselor in Training, Nurse, Specialists, Pequossette Staff, Park Instructors, Park Rangers, Tennis Supervisor, Coaches and Scorekeepers. If you are looking for employment to begin before the summer season, please complete your application and an interview will be scheduled with the Director of Recreation as soon as your application is completed.

Registration Open for Rec Department’s February & Spring Break Programs

The Watertown Recreation Department will be hosting week-long programs over February Break and Spring Break for students in grades K-8. February Vacation Program

The February Break program for students in grades K-8 will be at Watertown Middle School from Feb. 22–25, from 8:45 a.m.-3 p.m. There are options for early drop-off from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., and extended day from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Children will be divided into groups by grades at the start of the program. They will participate in activities such as basketball, whiffle ball, floor hockey and indoor soccer, etc. In addition, there will be arts and crafts, board games, movies and various special events.

Watertown Seeks Middle & High School Students to Help Seniors Shovel Snow

Students are wanted to help seniors clear snow through a program run by the Recreation Department. The City of Watertown sent out the following announcement:

Watertown Middle School and Watertown High School students, we need your help shoveling snow for our 72 senior and disabled residents who have requested help. So far only 22 students have signed up. You can earn community service hours and some other perks if you volunteer. Please call Recreation Director Peter Centola at 617-972-6494 right away!

Recreation Department Running December Vacation, Sports for Kids & Adults, Skiing & More

Sign ups have started for Watertown Recreation Department’s Winter Programs, which include a variety of programs for children and adults. The Rec Department will run a December Vacation program from Dec. 27-30 at Watertown Middle School for students in grades K-8. Sports programs are available for children and teens beginning at age 3 and running through high school. Some sports include basketball, floor hockey, volleyball, wrestling, as well as programs with a variety of sports.

Spaces Available for Watertown Recreation Summer Programs, Staff Wanted

Watertown Recreation’s summer program still has openings, and non-residents can now register. In addition, the Rec Department is seeking college-age or older staff for the summer. Watertown’s summer programs begin on Monday, June 28. Programs for children and teens include the Pequosette Summer Program, Cops ‘n’ Rec volleyball and street hockey, tennis, the Summer Parks Program. Adult offerings include tennis, pickleball and the men’s basketball league.

Sneakers to be Distributed, Winter Recreation Session Extended, Open Forum

The Watertown Recreation Department will be giving away shoes. Each pair will be packaged and picked out in a socially distanced event at Victory Field’s Field House. The Recreation Department provided the following information:

Join us for our monthly “Open Forum” through Zoom Technology and Face Time Live on Tuesday, February 2 at 7:00. This is an opportunity for our residents to listen to current information relative to our Recreation Department and ask questions, share concerns and recommendations. Our current Winter Session I programming schedule has been extended until Sunday, February 14.  All programs now in process will continue, same day, same time, same location.

Watertown Residents Can Apply for Scholarships to BB&N Summer Camp

The Watertown Recreation Department sent out the following announcement:

The Watertown Recreation Department is pleased to announce the offering of a limited number of scholarships for Watertown families whose children would like to attend the Buckingham Browne & Nichols Summer Camp. Each candidate must have a demonstrated and documented need for financial assistance or has a special circumstance that is considered exceptional. The Town of Watertown is grateful to the Buckingham Browne & Nichols School for offering this outstanding opportunity. The camp options are identified at https://bbnsummer.com/, and scholarships arefor any of their programs.

Each child may attend two weeks of camp and if awarded the scholarship will be in the amount of $200.00 each week toward the cost of the camp.This scholarship is available for Watertown residents only. We will begin to consider applications starting February 1, 2020 and accept them until June 1 or until all slots are filled, whatever occurs first.
