Police Log: Driver Strikes Pedestrian, Multiple Scams & Man Faces 3rd OUI Charge

The Watertown Police Department provided the following information. Arrests

Feb. 21, 5:11 p.m.: Police spotted a woman who they knew was wanted on a warrant. She was stopped at the corner of Main and Lexington streets and was taken into custody. The 42-year-old Watertown woman was arrested on two warrants from Waltham District Court: one for larceny under $1,200 and one for possession of a Class B substance.

Police Log: Resident Victim of Two Frauds, Man Caught after Fleeing Home Depot with Drills

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrests

Feb. 14, 8 p.m.: Target security stopped a shoplifter who had been seen taking nearly $1,200 in merchandise. The woman was caught with athletic clothing, sleepwear, underwear, coats, boots and gloves. When police arrived they spoke to the woman and checked her record, finding that she had warrants for her arrests.

Police Log: Two Drug Arrests, Compromised Email Leads to Scam

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrests

Feb. 4, 4:14 p.m.: An officer patrolling on Walnut Street ran the plates of a vehicle in the area and found the registered owner was wanted on an outstanding warrant. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver was identified as the owner. The 71-year-old Newton man was arrested on the warrant from Gloucester District Court for leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan will speak at the Watertown Senior Center about avoiding scams.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan will spread awareness about winter scams when she visits the Watertown Senior Center this month. The event will be on Jan. 30, 2019, at 10 a.m. at the Senior Center, 31 Marshall St., Watertown. This forum will educate participants about common scams that target senior citizens during the winter months. Scam-related topics include:

District Attorney Coming to Watertown to Talk to Seniors About Avoiding Scams

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan will visit the Watertown Senior Center to educate people about avoiding common scams on the phone, computers and other solicitations, the DA’s office announced. “Scam artists are skilled, and anyone can fall victim,” said Ryan. “Still there are things individuals can do to educate and protect themselves from these sorts of crimes.”

These crimes rob millions of people of their hard earned money. Join District Attorney Marian T. Ryan, Watertown Police Chief Michael Lawn, an Eastern Bank representative and a member of Springwell to learn how to better identify “red flags” in terms of scams, by way of calls, emails, and solicitations, and to determine what is the best way to respond. District Attorney Ryan served as the Chief of the office’s Elder and Disabled Unit for 18 years.
