Watertown Boys & Girls Club Auction Coming Up, Auction Items Being Accepted

The Watertown Boys & Girls Club Auction will raise money for scholarships to
send kids to camp this summer. The following information was provided by the Watertown Boys & Girls Club:

Watertown Boys & Girls Club will host BE GREAT AND CELEBRATE, their annual Spring Auction this benefit the Club on Friday, April 26 at 6:00 p.m.

This yearly event raises critical funds for the organization, including over $14,000 for summer camp scholarships. The event will be held at the Sons of Italy and will include performances by Club members, a raffle, silent and live auction, hors d’oeuvres, cocktails (cash bar) and a DJ. Tickets can be purchased online from the homepage of the Watertown Boys & Girls website, http://www.watertownbgc.org/

Those interested in donating an auction item or sponsoring the event are encouraged to reach out to the Club’s Director of Development & Marketing Communications, Jen Bray at jbray@watertownbgc.org.

Kids Can Head to the Watertown Boys & Girls Club for Pizza, Crafts and Games!

Youngsters can head to the Watertown Boys & Girls Club for a fun night of Valentine Crafts, Dodgeball & Pizza. Pre-register to save on the price of admission. The Watertown Boys & Girls Club announced it will host “Kids Night Out” on Friday, Feb. 8 from 6-8 p.m.

COST: Pre-registration (until 5 p.m. on Feb. 8): $10 per child, Day of Registration (after 5 p.m. on Feb.

Watertown Yoga Studio Celebrating 3 Years With Donation Based Classes

Artemis Yoga in the east end of Watertown is celebrating its third year of business this weekend, Jan. 19 and 20 with two days of donation-based “free” classes as an opportunity to give back to the community. 

“The staff and I at Artemis Yoga are grateful to the community that has supported our growing small business over the past three years and one of our goals of the Celebrate Open House is to give back to the community that has helped us build such a vibrant, welcoming place in the east end,” Liz Padula, the studio’s owner, said. “Yoga helps to set a foundation for life no matter your age and so we selected the Watertown Boys & Girls Club for our donation-based raffle as the Club is doing amazing work setting the foundation for their members and in particular the new Teen Center supported by the Great Futures Campaign is providing some amazing resources for our future leaders right here in Watertown. We invite the community to join us this weekend for a fun weekend of celebration!” The Celebrate Open House takes place on Saturday and Sunday Jan. 19 and 20 and classes for all levels from kids to gentle/chair yoga plus specialty classes such as introduction to meditation and yoga will be offered.

Registration Open for Watertown Boys & Girls Club February Vacation Program

Looking for a fun time for your kids during February Vacation Week? The Watertown Boys & Girls Club will be open for their February Vacation Program Tuesday to Friday, Feb. 19, 2019 to Feb. 22, 2019. The program runs 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. and thanks to the Watertown Community Foundation, lunch is included!

Assistant Recreation Director Looks Back on 30 Years Working with Watertown’s Youth

Ernie Thebado, the assistant director of the Watertown Department of Recreation, recently reached the 10 year mark working for the Town, and prior to that he had another 20 years working at the Watertown Boys & Girls Club. During his three decades in Town he made some strong and lasting connections. His career, however, did not begin in Watertown. 

“It all started with the Marlborough Boys and Girls Club,” Thebado said. “It was a stone’s thrown from my home.”

Newly Renovated Watertown Boys & Girls Club Wows the Public at Grand Opening

When the Watertown Boys & Girls Club reopens its doors for the school year this week members may not recognize the building. The facility on Whites Avenue recently completed a major renovation, and on Saturday the Club had a grand opening. Executive Director Renee Gaudette said she can’t wait to see the looks on children’s faces when they get their first look. “We plan to take videos of children as the come in,” Gaudette said. Town Council President Mark Sideris said the renovation turned out very nicely.

Watertown Boys & Girls Club Reopening Soon, Hosting Grand Opening

The Watertown Boys & Girls Club’s renovation is nearly complete and the club will soon reopen, and have a grand opening celebration. The Club will have an open house and grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. The event will feature the Boston Red Sox World Series Trophy from 12-3 p.m. Attendees can see the trophy and pose for photos with it. The Watertown Boys & Girls Club will be opening its after-school drop-in program on Monday, Sept. 24.

Bank Provides Grant for Boy’s & Girls Club’s Girls Science, Technology Program

The Watertown Boys & Girls Club provided the following information:

Watertown Boys & Girls Club a youth development organization providing after-school and summer programming, today announced it has received a $10,000 Targeted Grant from Eastern Bank, America’s oldest and largest mutual bank. The grant will support the implementation of “GIRLS ROCK”, an after-school STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) program specifically geared towards elementary and middle school girls. Each year, the Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation’s Targeted Grant program supports hundreds of community-based organizations working for progress on a specific issue in Eastern’s New England footprint. In 2018, in celebration of the Bank’s 200th anniversary and to honor its first depositor, Rebecca Sutton, Targeted Grants have been designated to support organizations addressing a range of issues that disproportionately impact women, such as sexual assault, domestic violence, human trafficking, health care, pay equity, and senior management and board representation. Watertown Boys & Girls Club is among 170 nonprofits each receiving a $10,000 grant.
