Dec. 19, 10:01 p.m.: An officer spotted a a vehicle make a left on a red light from Common Street onto Mt. Auburn Street. When the vehicle was pulled over, the officer noticed that driver showed signs of intoxication.

Watertown-based Enanta Pharmaceutical’s Michael Tchen shows a group of WHS biology students around the company’s labs. About two-dozen Watertown AP biology students took part in what is becoming a tradition for Watertown High School when they got a look inside a real biotech lab that is working on cures and vaccinations for diseases, including HIV and hepatitis. The group of WHS students took the field trip to Enanta Pharmaceuticals Inc. on Arsenal Street earlier this month for what is known at the company as a Lunch & Learn. The group of mostly juniors and seniors got to see the different phases of developing a drug, and talk to people who working on the cures. Last March, the WHS AP chemistry classes took the tour of Enanta.

The 2020 Census is approaching, and there are job opportunities available. The Census Bureau needs thousands of temporary employees to help complete the count. State Sen. Will Brownsberger, who represents Watertown, provided information for those seeking work with the Census. “Massachusetts needs 54,000 applicants for 2020 Census efforts, but only has received about 17,000 applications so far. Census takers must be hired from all communities across the Commonwealth to ensure a complete count,” Brownsberger wrote on his website.
The new lights on the trees on the Watertown Square Delta can change colors and display patterns. The lights on the trees in Watertown Square have gone high tech, and will be lit for more than just the holidays. Residents may have noticed the lights around the trees on the Watertown Delta shine not only brighter, but in different colors. This is the result of the new light system installed by the Department of Public Works, said Jesse Myott, the DPW’s Director of Administration and Finance. For years, the lights on the trees in the Watertown Delta were all white.

Watertown’s Rodrigo Freitas celebrates after scoring the winning goal in double overtime over Dracut in the North Section quarterfinal. Watertown junior Rodrigo Freitas added yet another accolade for the 2019 boys soccer season when he made the Boston Globe’s All-Scholastic team. Freitas also made the All-State team, the All-EMass team, was named Middlesex League Freedom Division MVP, and was one of five Raiders to make the Middlesex League All-Stars. The midfielder scored 13 goals this season, including the game winner in overtime against Dracut in the Div. 3 North quarterfinal.
