Outdoor Fitness Series Kicks-Off This Week at Arsenal Yards

Arsenal Yards will host outdoor fitness events on the Arsenal Green. The following information was provided by Arsenal Yards:

Through the fall, Arsenal Yards is bringing back its popular Outdoor Fitness Series with a chock-full schedule of complimentary classes, featuring local instructors and studios for a total body workout in a lively group setting! All classes are hosted on the Arsenal Green in Arsenal Park, located just through Buttermilk & Bourbon and Shake Shack. Guests must register in advance via the below links and bring their own mat and water. All classes are complimentary, however donations to the Watertown Food Pantry are encouraged!

Cartoon: Small Saves Has Some Company

James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net. Combining this with the love of cartooning Small Saves emerged in 1991 and took on a life of his own. “To play goal–then come home and draw Small Saves — is my ideal definition of a good day.”

Mosesian Center Offering Range of Art Classes This Fall

Visual and Performing Arts Classes

Registration has opened for fall classes for youth and adults in visual and performing arts at the Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown. Offsite arts education programming also continues into the fall, and onsite studio space is newly available for weekly use by local artists. The arts center’s largest educational offering in over two years includes thirty performing and visual arts classes for children, teens, and adults.

WGBH Airing Filmmaker’s Journey to Find Ancestral Homeland in Armenia, Partly Filmed in Watertown

Armenia Museum of America Director Jason Sohigian and filmmaker Ani Hovannisian, who made “The Hidden Map.” The film in which the granddaughter of a genocide survivor goes back to Armenia will be shown on WGBH. The following information was provided by the makers of The Hidden Map:

The Hidden Map, one of the only Armenian films ever to be distributed nationally by PBS, continues to share the Armenian story with viewers across America. After its successful June premiere in hundreds of U.S. cities, the documentary has been scheduled for more public television broadcasts from coast to coast during the network’s August pledge drive. Especially noteworthy is Boston WGBH’s visionary approach to connecting its viewers with the continuing story.

Quartet Playing Online Concert Hosted by the Armenian Museum

Armenian Museum of AmericaThe Komitas Quartet will be performing in an online concert hosted by the Armenian Museum of America. The following information was provided by the Armenian Museum of America:

The Armenian Museum of America recently announced its 11th Online Concert featuring an exclusive performance by the Komitas Quartet of Yerevan. The concert will be shown online on Sunday, Aug. 14 at 1 p.m.

Founded in 1924, the Komitas Quartet is the oldest-established string quartet still performing today. The group is named after Komitas, who had a formidable impact on Armenian music at the turn of the 20th century.

New Rep Theatre Taking Part in 2nd Annual Watertown Arts Market

The following announcement was provided by New Rep Theatre:

New Repertory Theatre (New Rep) is proud to be a part of the Watertown Arts Market on Saturday, Aug. 13 from noon to 5 p.m. at Arsenal Park. This annual outdoor event features nearly 100 area artists and cultural organizations, with a variety of activities and food options. It is free and open to the public.  

New Rep’s booth will feature videos and photos of New Rep productions, information about upcoming shows, and will present short live performances at the bottom of every hour throughout the day. These will feature Fulani Haynes and Geraldine Barney, sharing a slice of the life-affirming, joyous performances for which New Rep is known, and a preview of coming attractions at New Rep this fall.  

Throughout the day, members of the New Rep board and artistic team will be on hand to answer questions and share information about the company’s relaunch and exciting upcoming programming at the Mosesian Center for the Arts. New Rep will be located at booth #45.
