Dress Up for Halloween Comicfest at Watertown Comic Store

Watertown’s Comic Stop will host Halloween Comicfest 2018 on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018. Guests are invited to dress up and come down to the store, located at 134A Main St. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“It’s just like Free Comic Book Day but with an awesome Halloween theme,” according to the event announcement on Facebook. Graphic artist Dave Hudon will be drawing at the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will raise money for Buddy Dog Humane Society.

Noise from Planes from Logan Airport to be Discussed at Meeting

Boston West Fair Skies (BWFS) will hold a meeting Tuesday, Oct. 30 in
Cambridge. BWFS works towards redistributing airplane noise more fairly among our communities. The meeting will be on Tuesday Oct. 30, 2018, 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Russell Youth Center, 680 Huron Ave., Cambridge.

Watertown Police Hosting Prescription Drug Take Back Event

The Watertown Police Department provided the following information:

The Watertown Police Department is taking back unwanted prescription drugs Oct. 27 at 552 Main Street Watertown. On Saturday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Watertown Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will give the public its 16th opportunity in eight years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your pills for disposal to the Watertown Police Department at 552 Main Street Watertown, MA.

Watertown Library’s Democracy Talks Focuses on Civil and Uncivil Disobedience

The latest event in the Watertown Free Public Library’s ongoing Democracy Talks series will focus on civil and uncivil disobedience. 

The Library sent out the following information:
Democracy Talks: Civil and Uncivil Disobedience
Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 7 p.m., free and open to the public in the Watertown Savings Bank Room. What are our responsibilities in the face of injustice? Candice Delmas will discuss the standard template for civil disobedience, the demands and limits of civility, and the potential value of uncivil disobedience. Delmas is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Political Science at Northeastern University, where she serves as Associate Director of the Politics, Philosophy, and Economics Program. Her book, A Duty to Resist: When Disobedience Should Be Uncivil, was published by Oxford University Press in September 2018.

Applicants Sought for Watertown Community Foundation’s Education Grants

The following announcement was provided by the Watertown Community Foundation:

The Watertown Community Foundation (WCF) has merged with the Watertown Education Foundation (WEF) and announces the release of the Fall 2018 School Program Grants. This program focuses solely on Watertown’s public schools and seeks to support activities that improve instruction and learning.  The application form is available online. Grant requests of up to $2,500 will be considered, though the average amount awarded will likely range from $500 to $1,000. Where partnerships of two or more schools or organizations are involved an award of up to $5,000 will be considered. A total of $35.000 will be awarded Applications can be submitted for individual classrooms, grade-level initiatives, after-school programs, school-wide efforts, and system-wide plans.

On Sunday Nov. 11, 2018, The Private Charles J. Shutt Detachment Marine Corps League located at 215 Mt. Auburn St. Watertown, MA 02472 will be hosting a Veterans Day breakfast followed by a Ceremonial Observance. The Breakfast will begin at 10 a.m. and the Ceremony will begin at 11:00am.
