Golf Tournament Raises Big Bucks for Watertown Boys & Girls Club

The Watertown Boys and Girls Club held its 38th Annual Stephen P. Mugar Memorial Golf Tournament this week at the Oakley Country Club. Well over 100 golfers joined in for a gorgeous day of golf followed by a dinner and auction on Aug. 10. The event raised over $170k to support our Academic Success, Healthy Living and Character Development programs, which serve hundreds of youth each year. The Watertown Boys & Girls Club wishes to thank all our golfers, volunteers, hole sponsors and supporters.

Watertown Police Looking for Suspect in Watertown Savings Robbery

A man robbed the Watertown Savings Bank branch near the Waltham line, and Watertown Police seek the suspect. Officers responded to a reported bank robbery, at Watertown Savings Bank, 739 Main St., on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015. Bank employees activated their bank alarm in addition to calling 911, according to the Watertown Police press release. The suspect climbed over the fence located in the southwest portion of the parking lot and then entered the bank at approximately 11:30 a.m. He demanded cash from tellers and left approximately one minute later with an undisclosed amount of cash.

More Than 15 Stores Attending Job Fair at the Arsenal Project

The Arsenal Project in Watertown will host a job fair featuring more than 15 stores. Retailer Job Fair at The Arsenal Project will take place in Innovation Space at the former Arsenal Mall, 485 Arsenal Street, Watertown, on Thursday, Aug. 20 and Friday, Aug. 21 from 1-4 p.m.

Find Out About the Situation in Syria at St. Stephen’s Church

A member of the Armenian Relief Society (ARS) who is visiting from Aleppo will give an update about what is happening to the Armenian community in Syria during the recent upheaval. ARS Central Executive Board member Zepure E. Reisian will also talk about the relief efforts underway during the public briefing at St. Stephen’s Armenian Apostolic Church, 38 Elton Ave. in Watertown, on Sunday, Aug. 16, following church service.

Town Manager Pays Tribute to Joyce Munger’s Dedication to Watertown

Town Manager Michael Driscoll paid tribute to Joyce Munger, who died this week after dedicating decades of service to Watertown. At Tuesday’s Town Council Meeting, he said he worked with her on many issues, and at events, including when he was recruited to be a judge at the 1978 Miss Watertown during the town’s Fourth of July celebrations. Just last year, Munger stepped down from serving as chairperson of the Watertown Housing authority, a position she held since 1994. In her resignation letter, Munger wrote:
“It is with pride and sadness I am giving notice of my resignation to the Watertown Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. I have survived 35 years.

Dozens Show Up for Reunion at a Watertown Preschool

A Watertown preschool decided to hold a reunion and the turnout was well beyond what the founder and director had expected. Julie McMahon started Caterpillars to Butterflies Preschool 16 years ago, and she put out word about the reunion on Facebook just about a week before the event. “We probably had about 75 people in total. About 40 children. I was truly amazed by the number of high school graduates that attended,” McMahon said.
