MBTA Severely Cuts Service Monday Night & Tuesday

The MBTA announced Monday that public transportation in and around Boston will be suspended starting Monday night and continue through Tuesday.All trolley, subway and commuter rail service will stop at 7 p.m. Monday so that snow and ice can be removed from tracks, reported Boston.com. Panel Gathering to Help Boomers Make Their Next Move

A panel of experts from five different industries will host “Helping Boomers Make the Next Move at the Watertown. The discussion will be held on Feb. 21 from 2-4 p.m. in the Watertown Savings Bank Meeting Room at the library, 123 Main St. There is no charge for the information packed event. “Are you thinking about sizing down? Do you know someone who is ready to make a move? Making a move is more than just packing and moving boxes, it is about transition and preparation,” said the announcement.

Place to be Creative and Learn HATCHes in Watertown

The Watertown Library and the Arsenal Mall teamed up to create a spot in town where residents can use a 3-D printer, create electronic music and learn jewelry making. Watertown Free Public Library’s makerspace, known as HATCH, officially opened at the end of January in a storefront inside the mall, a few doors down from Dunkin’ Donuts. Assistant Library Director Caitlin Browne thanked the mall for offering the space. “If you guys did n;t open the space to us we would still be at the library waiting,” Browne said. “We had been waiting to do this for two years.”

Monday’s snow storm has caused some closings, but other places are open, including places to grab Patriots Super Bowl championship gear! The Watertown Public Schools are closed Monday due to the storm that could leave a foot or more of snow in Watertown. Monday’s School Committee meeting has been postponed until Feb. 9. Kids – and their parents – will still have a chance to grab their Super Bowl champs hats, T-shirts and more at the Arsenal Project to get ready for the Patriots parade at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Learn How to Deal with Stress at a Free Presentation

Learn about stress and stress management wit a free lecture presented by the Watertown Health Department. Public Health Nurse Wil van Dinter, RN will discuss some of the most common causes of stress, such as work, finances, taking care of an ill family member, chronic illness and emotional struggles. The lecture will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 6 at the Watertown Mall, 550 Arsenal St. in Watertown.

Marshall Fund Home Looking for Grant Applications

The Marshall Home Fund (MHF) is soliciting program grant proposals for the year 2015-2016. Since its inception in 2005, MHF has awarded over $300,000 to both public and private non-profit agencies serving older people in Watertown. Collectively, these grants have significantly increased the recipients’ program capabilities. Once again, MHF is looking forward to helping local agencies advance their goals in the coming year. Grant applications should address health, housing, transportation, and other quality of life issues for seniors in Watertown.

Watertown Community Gardens Meeting Coming Up

Find out about the Watertown Community Gardens at the group’s annual meeting this week. Guest Speaker Juliet Stone will be discussing urban and classroom gardening, along with public green space development during the WCG  annual meeting on Thursday, Jan. 29 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Watertown Free Public Library (in the Watertown Savings Bank room). Stone is a former Watertown resident who has helped transform and renovate community and schoolyard gardens throughout the Boston area. Watertown Community Gardens will also be voting on new board officers for the upcoming year, along with giving updates on the Summer Youth Crew program and the Live Well Watertown project.
