Watertown Police Investigating a Pair of Home Burglaries

Two Watertown homes were broken into last week, and Watertown Police are investigating the incidents where valuables were stolen. 

The burglaries took place on Walnut Street and in a nearby home on Franklin Street. A Walnut Street resident came home from work on Nov. 22 around 7:45 p.m. to find the rear door wide open, and the window to a first-floor bedroom window was also open, said Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor. “The bedroom was completely ransacked,” said O’Connor, who added that other rooms in the house had items disturbed. Approximately $2,500 in property was taken from the home, O’Connor said.

Watertown Police Arrest Major Drug Dealer After Long Investigation

Watertown Police, working with the Suburban Middlesex County Drug Task Force, arrested a 39-year-old town resident suspected of dealing narcotics in the area. 

The Watertown Police Detective Division executed a search warrant at 44C Robert Ford Road on Nov. 15, 2017, and discovered narcotics, cash, a firearm, ammunition and brass knuckles, according to Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor. The arrest of Jason Alberto Dalencar, 39, of Watertown was the result of a six-month investigation. “Jason Dalencar was believed to be a major supplier of narcotics in Watertown,
Waltham, and Newton,” O’Connor said. The narcotics are the prescription opioid oxycodone.

Watertown Police Running Compliance Checks of Establishments Serving Alcohol

The Watertown Police Department announced it will be conducting annual Alcohol Compliance Checks of all licensed establishments beginning in November 2017 through November 2018. These compliance checks are conducted to ensure that all licensed establishments follow and comply with all rules and regulations pertaining to the safe service and sale of alcohol in our community. This notice is made in accordance with department alcohol compliance policy and with the recommendation of the ABCC (Alcohol Beverage Control Commission).

Two Funeral Homes Offering Reward for Identity of Cemetery Vandals

Two area funeral homes have joined together to offer a $2,000 reward for the identity of the person or people who knocked over a statue and several headstones at St. Patrick’s Cemetery last week. On Nov. 7, the vandalism was discovered. Along with seven tipped headstones a statue on the monument to the Marist Missionary Sisters was knocked over and shattered.

Grant Allows Watertown Fire Department to Give Seniors Smoke Detectors

With funds from the Senior SAFE Grant the Watertown Fire Department was able to conduct a smoke and carbon monoxide alarm installation program for seniors, said Watertown Fire Capt. Ryan Nicholson. “Seniors are one of our most at risk populations with regards to fire deaths across the state. Smoke alarms provide early warning during a fire when seconds count,” Nicholson said. This year our program was able to install 48 smoke alarms and 41 carbon monoxide alarms in 20 elderly resident’s homes, Nicholson said. In addition, each resident was provided a fire extinguisher and an opportunity to voice their questions and concerns with regards to fire safety in the home.
