Police Log: Loud Music Call Leads to Arrest, Shoplifter Caught Near Store

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrests

Sept. 14, 1:45 a.m.: Police received a call about a vehicle playing loud music and disturbing residents on Repton Circle. When officers arrived they found a vehicle in the middle of the driveway, blocking it, with a man sitting in the driver’s seat and the motor running. An open can of Corona beer was found in the cup holder of the center console, and six empty beer cans were found.

Mosesian Arts Hosting Comedy, Music & Plays During Fall Season

The Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown has announced a fall season of performances, exhibitions, and arts education programs. From theater, comedy, dance, and music to new exhibitions and arts education, from returning favorites to new partnerships, there’s plenty of variety in this season’s programming. The Ivy League of Comedy brings Jon Fisch, Karen Bergreen, and Shaun Eli to Mosesian Arts on October 7. A native of Boston, Jon Fisch was chosen as a Comedy Central Fresh Face of Comedy early in his career and was named one of Backstage Magazine’s 10 Standout Stand-ups. Karen Bergreen is a comic and novelist who has appeared on Comedy Central, the Oxygen network, Nick Mom, The View, and The Joy Behar Show. Host and master storyteller Shaun Eli proves that there’s hilarity in the ordinary if you approach life with a comedic warp.

Arsenal Yards Pulls Request for Illuminated Sign on Tower

Dave MartinA view down the Charles River from the Bridge on North Beacon Street with the 100 Forge building at Arsenal Yards in the distance. An illuminated sign had been proposed to go near the top of the building. The owners of Arsenal Yards, Boylston Properties, have pulled a request for permission to put an illuminated sign on the top of the tower at the East Watertown complex. Bill McQuillan, principal of Boylston Properties, sent a letter to City Council President Mark Sideris and Assistant Town Manager Steve Magoon informing them of the request. The Zoning Amendment for the sign on top of the 130-foot building known as 100 Forge was scheduled to be discussed at the Sept.

The Watertown Boys & Girls Club (WBGC) will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a Gala event, “Celebrating Gold” on Friday, Oct. 28, 2022 at the Hellenic Cultural Center in Watertown. This special evening marks a half-century of dedication and commitment to the youth of Watertown and will honor the accomplishments of Club members, staff, volunteers and everyone in the community who have inspired and empowered youth to build great futures. The evening program will recognize community members, Mr. John Airasian and Mrs. Kelley MacDonald with two special awards for their instrumental roles in the growth and sustainability of the Club.

Longtime Watertown Restaurant Sold, Will Keep Current Concept

Conley’s Pub & GrilleConley’s Pub & Grille on Belmont Street has been sold. Watertown’s Conley’s Pub & Grille has been sold, but the new owners will reportedly keep the same concept at the Belmont Street restaurant. After 21 years, the owners of East End restaurant said “That’s a wrap.” on the Conley’s Facebook page on Sept. 18.

Watertown Schools See Influx of Students at Elementary, High School Levels

Charlie BreitroseThe new school building at Cunniff Elementary School, along with the new Hosmer School have seen an increase of enrollment this fall. Watertown High School has also grown. More students arrived at the Watertown Public Schools than expected this fall, requiring the addition of some new classes, teachers and support staff. Superintendent Dede Galdston told the School Committee on Monday that she believes the district’s new schools are part of the draw. The 2022-23 school year is the first that students will spend the whole year in the new Cunniff and Hosmer elementary school buildings.
