Swimmer from Watertown Sets School Record at Bridgwater State

Jirat Saengthong of Watertown set a new standard at Bridgewater State in the 200 freestyle during the Little East Conference Championships in Wellesley on Feb. 14. The junior finished second with a time of 1:45.80, eclipsing the previous BSU record of 1:46.39 set by Jameson Rose in 2017. He improved his personal best by 0.82 seconds, and the performance was one of three school records set by Bridgwater State swimmers that day. Saengthong also finished second in the 100 individual medley with a time of 54.71 on Sunday.

Watertown Athletes Earn Accolades in College Field Hockey & Basketball

Watertown High School graduates Caroline Andrade and Taylor Lambo earned honors for their college teams.

Two former Watertown Raiders have gone on to excel at the next level. Field hockey player Caroline Andrade was named Rookie of the Year at Westfield State, and Hamilton College basketball player Taylor Lambo was named player of the week. Westfield State field hockey landed six players on the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference’s All-Conference team, including Rookie of the Year Caroline Andrade (Watertown, Mass.). Also, Owls’ coach Carden Brown was named the league’s coach of the year.

Watertown Grad, Westfield St. Field Hockey Player Earns D3 National Player of the Week Honor

Earlier this week, Westfield State first-year forward Caroline Andrade (Watertown, Mass./Watertown HS) was named as the National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s national Offensive Player of the Week for NCAA Division III for the week ending October 5. Andrade tallied five goals and three assists in a 3-0 week for the Owls, and has been a major factor in the Owls current eight-game winning streak. “I was excited,” said Andrade, on learning of the award. “But I think it’s’ really about the team connecting,  more of a team effort and seeing passes.”

Andrade missed the first six games of the 2025 season for the Owls when an injury she suffered during high school basketball flared up before the start of the season. Andrade came off the bench in her first two games in the lineup for the Owls, scoring shootout in a overtime win against Johnson and Wales before being inserted into the starting lineup. “I was a little rough and rusty at first, and it was difficult not knowing exactly how my teammates played even though I had been watching all season,” said Andrade.

Watertown Grad Makes Track All-Region Team, Competing at NCAAs

Bridgewater State senior Abbi Peterson, a Watertown High School grad, was named to the NCAA Division III All-East Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). She will be competing in the NCAA Championships on Thursday.

UMass Lowell Field Hockey Head Coach Shannon LeBlanc announced her team’s captains for the 2023 season. Rising-seniors Alissia de Vries (The Hague, Netherlands), Mirthe Gans (Tiel, Netherlands) and Aurise Tattrie (Watertown, Mass.) have all been named to the leadership role for the first time this year. “Ali, Aurise and Mirthe are fantastic leaders as individuals, but as a group, they will be very influential in our success this coming fall,” said LeBlanc. “They all have unique qualities that the team admires, but they are all passionate, love to win, and have a team-first mentality.

College Sports: Pitcher Earns Win, High Jumper Wins for Bridgewater, Senior Signs to Play Field Hockey

Anthony Panza, a WHS grad, closed out a shutout for Framingham State on April 7, and notched a win for the Rams over Bridgwater State. The decision was the first win for the senior, who has two saves in eight appearances along with 22 strike outs, just one walk, and an ERA of 0.00.

Watertown Grad Named Rookie of the Year in Region by D3Hoops.com

Hamilton College AthleticsWatertown grad and current Hamilton College player Taylor Lambo was named D3Hoops.com’s Region 1 Rookie of the Year. The following announcement came from Hamilton College Athletics:

Hamilton College women’s basketball forward Taylor Lambo ’26 (Watertown, Mass./Watertown HS) was selected the 2023 Rookie of the Year in Region 1 by D3hoops.com earlier this month when the NCAA Division III basketball website announced its all-region teams.

Lambo was also voted to the third team in the region. She is the only first-year athlete on the all region team in Region 1, which includes the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference and the North Atlantic Conference. Lambo was named the NESCAC Rookie of the Year and made the all-conference second team in early March. She led the Continentals in scoring with 13.6 points per game and was second with 8.2 rebounds per game.

Hamilton College forward Taylor Lambo ’26 (Watertown, Mass./Watertown HS) has been selected the 2023 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Year by the conference’s coaches. Lambo also made the all-NESCAC second team and was one of 10 players who received all-conference honors. She is Hamilton’s first rookie of the year since the Continentals joined the NESCAC for basketball for the 2011-12 season.
