Watertown Recycling Event a “Huge Success,” People Lined the Street to Participate

The Public Works Recycling Event on March 25 drew so many people that cars were backed up down Waltham Street with residents waiting to dispose of a variety of items, and even grab some free soil. City Council President Mark Sideris said he was impressed by how much interest the event drew. “What a successful recycling event we had. You couldn’t get down Waltham Street — they were waiting in line!” Siders said during a recent Council meeting.

City’s Rodent Control Program Using Smart Traps to Eliminate & Track Pests

With the problem of rodents growing around Watertown, and more expected as a result of a pair of major road projects, the Department of Public Works will deploy more robust rodent control methods. The City will use dozens of smart traps that will both take care of rats and other rodents, and also provide information such as where the “hot spots” are, said Tom Watkins, Director of Administration and Finance for the Watertown DPW. “The Anticimix technology does represent a change in the way we are approaching our efforts in addressing rodent control in the City,” Watkins said. “The Anticimix is a SMART technology that provides us real live data for which we will use to strategically locate the traps as the program moves forward.” The City, in partnership with Modern Pest Services, will deploy 40 of the traps on Arsenal Street and 30 on Mt.

The City of Watertown, MA has begun using Anticimex SMART technology, provided through Modern Pest Services, a licensed pest control company. The SMART City concept is an intelligent, non-toxic, always-on solution for pest control, and was developed to provide municipalities and community organizations access to a comprehensive solution to rodent control. The City of Watertown, in partnership with Modern Pest Services, is conducting site evaluations and has deployed SMART equipment in tactical areas of the city to identify, monitor, and control rodent “hot spots” to reduce rodent pressure throughout the city. Modern Pest has begun rolling out strategic deployment of above-ground SMART boxes, which monitor and control rodent activity while providing real-time data for proactive pest control in the community. This includes immediate employment as a full-time seasonal (Mon.–Fri. 40 hours/week) member of the department. Applicants must be entering the 9th grade (Fall 2023) or older to be considered. Positions are available in the Parks, Cemetery and Water Divisions.

Clothes of Any Condition to be Collected at Watertown Recycling Event

On Saturday, March 25, 2023, from 10 am to 2 pm, the City of Watertown will host a clothing drive in collaboration with Helpsy. Collections will take place during the Recycling Event at Boston’s Jewish Community Day School at 57 Stanley Ave. in Watertown. The event also includes styrofoam collection, mattress disposal, dehumidifier collection and more. Helpsy, the city’s partner for clothing reuse and recycling, will collect clothing in a range of conditions — used and unused — at the recycling event.

City Looking Keep Watertown’s Recyclables “Valuable,” Composting Program Successful So Far

Watertown DPWCurbside composting toters, like the one on the left, were recently added to the Watertown trash and recycling program. Watertown’s trash and recycling contract is up for renewal, and City officials are trying to do more to reduce the amount of trash being thrown out and increase the amount of recycling as rates increase. Last week, the City Council approved the recommendations of the Department of Public Works as it works on the new contract. In the previous contract, Watertown was able to guarantee a rate for recycling, which would not depend on the market for recyclables. In recent years there have been large fluctuations in the prices, said Public Works Superintendent Greg St.

The City of Watertown will host a recycling event, along with paper shredding and a compost give away on March 25 in the parking lot of the Jewish Day School on Stanley Street. The Watertown Department of Public Works provided the following announcement:

Watertown Recycling Center Closed During Cold Spell

Watertown’s Recycling Center will be closed this weekend due to the frigid temperatures, according to the announcement from the Department of Public Works. See info below. Due to inclement weather, the Recycle Center will be closing today, Friday, February 3, 2023 at 1pm and will remain closed all of Saturday, February 4, 2023. The Recycle Center will reopen Tuesday, February 7, 2023. Thank you and stay warm.
