Watertown Farmers Market Returns Soon With Extended Hours

The Watertown Farmers’ Market returns on June 7 and in 2018 they market will open earlier and go later. 

Once again, the Farmers’ Market will be held on the green at the Arsenal on the Charles (Corner of Arsenal Street and Kingsbury Avenue) in front of Panera Bread. The market will be open an extra hour — opening half an hour earlier and running half an hour later than last year. The market will features entertainment, and will have tables featuring community groups. Organizers seek more entertainers, community groups and would like volunteers (see details below). The market runs from June 7 to Oct.

The Last Watertown Farmers’ Market of the Year Coming Thursday

As the end of October approaches, so does the end of the season for the Watertown Farmers’ Market and there are some special events this week. 

The final market of the year will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26 on the green outside Panera Bread in the Arsenal on the Charles. Organizers of the Farmers’ Market sent out the following message:

Thank you all for coming to market this year — What a wonderful season. Please join us this week for the last market packed with activities including face painting, raffles, and delicious, local food! Come celebrate the end of the season with us, stock up for the next several weeks, and thank the vendors who make it all happen.

Chef Presenting Cooking Demonstration at Watertown Farmers Market

On Thursday, the Watertown Farmers Market and Eat Well Watertown teamed up to bring a guest chef this week to do a cooking demonstration using the products available at the market. Watertown Farmers’ Market sent out the following announcement:

Community Chef Carabeth Connolly will be showcasing select seasonal produce from our vendor’s farms and will be demonstrating how to prepare a healthy and delicious dish starting at 4:00 pm & 5:00 pm. Stop by to learn how to make Zucchini, Corn, and Quinoa Bowls, try a sample, and pick up the ingredients needed right at the market! The market is open 2-6 p.m. every Thursday afternoon through the end of October. It is located at the Arsenal on the Charles, on the green in front of Panera Bread.

Watertown Farmers Market Opening in June Under New Management

The Town of Watertown, in collaboration with Live Well Watertown (LWW), is excited to announce that it has assumed management of the Watertown Farmers Market, which is generously sponsored by athenahealth. The Watertown Farmers Market was established in 2014 and run by Relish Management through 2016, with funding support from athenahealth. The Town and LWW thank the Relish partners for opening a Farmers Market in Watertown and providing a community marketplace with a variety of fresh produce, farm, and specialty products. The Farmers Market is a natural link to LWW’s mission of promoting healthy and active living through its community partnerships and educational programs. LWW efforts include strengthening access to local, healthy foods and connecting people to community resources and opportunities that can improve quality of life. LWW’s longest running program, Eat Well Watertown, teaches people how to select a variety of seasonal and locally grown foods and prepare healthy, multicultural dishes.

Thursday’s Farmers Market Features Peas, Carrots & the Community Gardens

Thursday afternoon means the Watertown Farmers Market, and this week you can enjoy some summer crops, including peas and carrots of different stripes. 

You will be able to find snap peas, sweet peas, orange and purple carrots at the booths. Also, summer squashes and greens. The market has much more than vegetables. Each week a cheesemaker sets up a table, with Jasper Hill Farm and Central Bottle alternating each week. Another vendor is Ava’s Popcorn, which was recently featured on WGBH’s Craving Boston.

Final Watertown Farmers Market Includes a Halloween Party

The end of October means the end of the season for the Watertown Farmers Market, but it will go out with a bash. “Parting is such sweet sorrow; let’s party instead!” organizers of the Farmers Market said. On Thursday, Oct, 29 from 2-6 p.m., the final Watertown Farmers Market will also be  a Neighborhood Halloween Party at the Arsenal on the Charles, 3 Kingsbury Ave. (off Arsenal Street) under the smokestack.
