The Watertown Mall and the Watertown Family Network have teamed up to put together a free family event to celebrate summer. 

The groups released the following information:

Celebrate Summer with the Watertown Family Network at the Watertown Mall on Wednesday, June 21 at 11 a.m.! Join the Watertown Family Network and the Watertown Mall to celebrate the sunny days of summer! There will be songs, stories and surprises for kids of all ages. Come and make festive and summery crafts! All supplies will be provided.

Watertown Woman Biking 62 Miles in the RIDE to End Alzheimer

Ellen O’Connell, of Watertown, will bike 62 miles in the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter’s RIDE to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, June 24, the Alzheimer’s Association, MA/NH Chapter announced. Starting and finishing at Odiorne State Park in Rye, NH, the RIDE provides a 2-, 30-, 62- and 100-mile route through the towns of coastal New Hampshire and the north shore of Massachusetts. O’Connell joins the RIDE to honor her father who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s over 10 years ago. The youngest of 6 children, Ellen is the captain of the team Pedaling for Parents, “I founded it with one of my dear friends whose mother also suffers from Alzheimer’s. My friend Leigh has been my support system throughout this whole ordeal.

Town Seeks Applicants for Open Seat on Historical District Commission

With the passing of Historic District Commissioner Nicki Famiglietti, the Town of Watertown seeks to fill the seat on the Watertown Historic District Commission. The following announcement was sent out by the Town:
The Town Manager Michael J. Driscoll is seeking Watertown Citizens interested in serving on the Historic District Commission in accordance with Ordinance # 2007-46, an Odinance on the Timing and Process of Appointments to Town Boards, Commissions and Committees. Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest accompanied by a resume or other information concerning background or experience by email to townmgr@watertown-ma.gov or to Town Manager’s Office, 149 Main Street, Watertown, MA 02472. Description: The purpose of the commission is to safe guard the education, cultural, economic and general welfare of the public throughout the preservation and protection of distinctive characteristics of buildings of Historic or architectural significance and to encourage growth, development and improvements.  Also to affect and accomplish the protection, enhancement and perpetuation of such improvements and features and of districts which represent or reflect elements of Watertown’s unique cultural, social, economic, political and architectural history. The Historic District Commission meets the fourth Wednesday of each month.

Photography Exhibit at Plumbing Museum Features Work of 2 Artists

The Plumbing Museum announced its latest exhibition, Light Traces, a two-person alternative photography exhibition featuring Jenn Wood and Ian MacLellan, opening on June 22, 2017. The show will display new works created during the artists’ studio residencies at the Manoog Family Artist-in-Residency program launched last year in partnership with J.C. Cannistraro. The show runs from June 22 through August 7, 2017. Inspired by the Plumbing Museum’s collection as well as J.C. Cannistraro fabrication shops and construction sites, the exhibition will showcase pinhole and cyanotype prints as well as digital collage. “The new collection reflects creative possibilities of alternative photography.

Watertown Man Named Director of Drug & Alcohol Treatment Center

A Watertown man has been named the director of an outpatient drug and alcohol treatment center in Quincy.

Iconic Business Woman Yolanda Taking Part in This Year’s Relay for Life

Waltham resident and iconic Boston-area businesswoman Yolanda Cellucci will participate in Relay For Life of Watertown, Newton, Waltham this coming Saturday, the American Cancer Society announced. While she’s always supported the work of the American Cancer Society, now her motivation is a near and dear source – her daughter. Celucci’s daughter Linda Petrosian, 57, was diagnosed with esophageal cancer three years ago and has endured a “terrible” surgery that removed a mass in her throat, chemotherapy and radiation. She’s still scheduled to go through 10 months of treatment. She’s plagued with a horrible cough and sickness, but she still stays active; a strong network of friends and family have helped her get through it, Celucci said.

Free Support Group for Family, Caregivers of People Living With Mental Illness

NAMI Family Support Group is a free, structured, confidential peer-led support group for family members, caregivers and loved ones of individuals living with mental illness, announced the organizers.  

A support group will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 7:30-9 p.m. at Newton Wellesley Hospital’s main building at 2014 Washington Street in Newton, on the second floor of the Bowles Conference Center. This is organized by the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI).
