The candidates for the Suffolk and Middlesex State Senate District — Will Brownsberger and Daniel Lander — will appear at a candidate forum in Boston. The district includes Watertown, Belmont and parts of Boston and Cambridge. See more information from the Boston Ward Committee Dems, below. Join the Boston Democratic Wards 4 and 5 Committees for a lively conversation with the candidates running for seats in the Mass Senate. The Forum will be a double-header, with candidates for the Suffolk & Middlesex State Senate race speaking from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. — and the candidates for the First Suffolk State Senate race speaking from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

During my legal career, encompassing 20 years as a public defender and 24 years as a juvenile court judge, I have learned a lot about the legislative process and the importance of having an effective and forceful advocate who understands the issues and the needs of our community. Will has been in the forefront of youth and criminal legal reform efforts, and his voice is now needed more than ever. I work with a wide network of advocacy groups who realize the imperative of having someone who has the institutional history and credibility to get things done.

Brownsberger represents the Suffolk and Middlesex district, consisting of Belmont, Watertown, West Cambridge, Allston, Brighton, and Fenway. “Senator Brownsberger’s leadership has been a crucial part of so much of our state’s progress in the last decade, and we need him back on Beacon Hill next year,” said Governor Maura Healey. “I’ve been proud to work with him on everything from making our communities safer to driving economic growth, and he played an instrumental role in helping the Affordable Homes Act across the finish line to build more housing and lower costs. I’m grateful for his partnership, and I’m proud to support his re-election.”

Senator Brownsberger and Governor Healey have worked closely on a number of efforts to improve the district and the state as a whole, including the passage of the Mass Leads Act, which invested $400 million to drive economic development through investments in the AI, climatetech, and life sciences sectors, and their partnership was instrumental in passing the historic $5.16 billion Affordable Homes Act to increase the supply of homes to bring down costs.
