See the New ‘Erase the Stigma of Substance Abuse’ PSA

Local groups working to raise awareness about substance abuse in Watertown produced a produced a new public service announcement as part of the Coming Together to Erase the Stigma Week. The PSA features locals involved in the effort to fight opiate addiction and other substance abuse in Watertown. It was made by the Wayside Multi Service Center, WATER Town, and Watertown Overcoming Addiction. Y0u can watch the video below:

Watertown Theater Group Has Educated About Addiction for 31 Years

A foursome of actors kept a Watertown High School auditorium packed with students mesmerized during a recent performance as part of the Erase the Stigma Week. 

The actors came from the Improbable Players, a theater company made up of former substance abusers. The group was created by Watertown resident Lynn Bratley 31 years ago this October after she had gotten into recovery from alcohol addiction. The group has traveled around New England, educating students of all ages about substance abuse prevention. A satellite group of former members from the Boston area started another chapter in New York City, which tours around New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, Bratley said. Bratley, the founder, artistic director and executive director of Improbable Players, wrote and performed with the group for the first 10 years, or so.

Coyote Sightings Have Been Reported Around Watertown

Reports of coyotes roaming around Watertown have been reported recently. 

Last week, a report of a coyote was reported in the area of Whitney Hill, behind Victory Field, was put out on the Watertown Police radio. On Halloween, a resident put up a notice on Nextdoor Watertown reporting that several people in the area of the Oakley Country Club have seen a “very healthy coyote, almost the size of a small husky” wandering around the area. The streets include Arden, Stoneleigh, Russell and Bailey streets. Coyotes rarely attack humans, according to the Humane Society of the United States, but they do pose a threat to pets. Find Out About the History of Your Home and Your Family at the Library

The Watertown Free Public Library has two upcoming events for those interested in learning more about the past of their home or their family. On Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m., the library will host a free talk about how to find deeds and other resources to learn about the history of your house. Marian Pierre-Louis of Fieldstone Historic Research will provide tips, and talk about her experience researching an old home in Watertown. No registration is necessary. Next month, genealogical researcher Liz Kolster will be at the library for a presentation to help intermediate participants learn how to organize their search, what resources are available, how to use them and how to your analyze evidence to go as far as you can.

Water Main Break Shuts Down Part of Greenough Boulevard

A water main break flooded part of Greenough Boulevard Tuesday morning, forcing it to be closed. 

The section of the road between North Beacon and Arsenal streets was closed this morning due to the break. The area has been plagued with similar problems over the past few years. The Watertown Department of Public Works has crews working on fixing the pipes.

MasterChef Junior Looking for Young Cooks in the Boston Area

Attention kid chefs, Fox will be holding a casting call in Boston for MasterChef Junior. The show features young chefs competing in cooking competitions, which are judged by, among others, Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsey. MasterChef Junior stars and season 4 premiers on Nov. 6 on Fox. The Boston casting call is for season 5 of MasterChef Junior.

2 Watertown Residents Get a Surprise from Tom Brady at Whole Foods

Two Watertown residents got a surprise courtesy of Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady on a recent shopping trip to Whole Foods. The Patriots play caller went around to Boston area Whole Foods Markets in a large skull mask (check out the video by clicking here!) and dropped off special prizes inside 50 buckets of UnReal’s 3-D Halloween treats. Watertown’s Chloe and James Munroe-Ellis were lucky recipients of one of the prize buckets. The buckets will got to Whole Foods in Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and the Hartford, Conn., area. “Tom wants to join UnReal in encouraging others to believe that everything is possible this Halloween season, just like UnReal’s co-founder Nicky Bronner proved when he set out to recreate America’s favorite candies using only the best tasting and 100% real ingredients.
