QuebradaQuebrada Baking Co. will be opening in Watertown on April 25. Lovers of baked goods will have a new, but familiar name to visit in Watertown. Quebrada Baking Co. will open its fourth location on the corner of Orchard Street and Waverley Avenue (across from the fire station) on Monday, April 25.
JacobsA view of the four-story life science center proposed for the former Russo’s site at 560 Pleasant St. Preliminary plans for the former Russo’s property on Pleasant Street have been submitted to the Watertown Planning Department, and include a lab/office building, retail space, a parking garage, with publicly-accessible open space in between. Saracen Properties and BentallGreenOak submitted the plans on April 7, and the group will have a developer’s conference with Planning staff about the project on the 4.82-acre property. Plans show a life science center, retail, and publicly-accessible open space. The project will have at least one community meeting before going to the Planning Board for consideration.
A Watertown woman finished among the top female runners in the 2022 Boston Marathon. She was one of more than a dozen runners to run the race on Patriots Day
Elaina Tabb finished 16th in the women’s race with a time of 2:31:34. She was also the 174th fastest runner, overall. In 2021, Tabb finished 12th in the women’s race. The fastest male runner from Watertown was Matthew Farkas, who finished 346th in the men’s race, and 368th overall.

April 9, 5:43 p.m.: An officer in Coolidge Square spotted a vehicle illegally parked. When the officer ran the plate it showed the owner had a suspended license as well as a warrant for his arrest. The officer saw the driver and recognized him as the owner. When the officer turned the cruiser’s the lights on and tried to stop the man the suspect sped away, turned and headed east on Grove Street.
Travis NorrisThe Watertown High School Robotics Team celebrated after becoming a finalist at the FIRST Robotics Greater Boston Event and winning the Team Spirit Award. A small but dedicated group of Watertown High School students designed, programmed, and piloted a robot that competed and fared well against competition from around Eastern Massachusetts. And the WHS Robotics Team enjoyed one of its most successful years in 2022. The team reached the final of the knockout stage of the Greater Boston Event in late March. This is the farthest the team has ever advanced in its history.

David Morrill, far left, attended the ceremony on the 63rd anniversary of his father Charles’ death. Five Watertown Firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty will have a permanent place at the Watertown Fire Headquarters. Each was memorialized with a plaque placed on the front of the building. The Watertown Fire Department unveiled the plaques to Willard Streeter, Gilbert Nichols, Ernest Ford, Charles Morrill and Joseph Toscano on Wednesday afternoon.

He won five titles in his career. After coaching for half a century, the last 28 years at Boston College, Watertown’s Jerry York announced his retirement. The Hall of Fame coach is the winningest coach in NCAA hockey history.

The Board of Trustees of the Watertown Free Public Library (WFPL) began searching for a new library director earlier this year, following the retirement of Leone Cole, who had served in that role for 27 years. The Trustees initiated this search in January with the help of Bernard Lynch of Community Paradigm Associates. After receiving 15 applications, the Preliminary Screening Committee selected five candidates to interview last month. That pool was then narrowed down to three finalists who were recommended to the Trustees.
