Recreation Department Hosting Open Gym Sundays at Watertown High School

Winter is here, and that means Community Sports & Games Open Gym Program is back! Please don’t forget to register and participate in this program. It’s a great way to get out of the cold into the gym for some fun and exercise!

Scholarships Available for Watertown Residents to Attend BB&N Summer Camp

The City of Watertown provided the following announcement:

The Watertown Recreation Department is pleased to announce the offering of a limited number of scholarships for Watertown families whose children would like to attend the Buckingham Browne & Nichols Summer Camp. Each candidate must have a demonstrated and documented need for financial assistance or has a special circumstance that is considered exceptional. The City of Watertown is grateful to the Buckingham Browne & Nichols School for offering this outstanding opportunity. The camp options are identified at https://bbnsummer.com/, and scholarships are for any of their programs. Each child may attend one week of camp and if awarded the scholarship will be in theamount of $250.00 toward the cost of the camp. This scholarship is available for Watertown residents only.

Team New Day Sweeps the 2021 Watertown Summer Basketball League Finals

Watertown RecreationTeam New Day took on Team HBC in the finals the Papas Elite League championship. The Watertown Summer Basketball League wrapped up for the year with a two game sweep by the 2021 champions. See the game report provided by the Watertown Recreation Department, below. The Summer of 2021 will go down as an unusual year for the Watertown Recreation Department’s Men’s Summer Basketball League. Due to COVID concerns, the league got a late start, but fortunately there was a positive response from some of the veteran teams in the Papas Elite League.

Registration Open for Watertown Recreation’s Summer Programs

Residents can sign up for the Watertown Recreation Department’s Summer Program, which has programs for youth and adults. Programs for children and teens include Cops ‘n’ Rec volleyball and street hockey, tennis, the Summer Parks Program, tennis and Camp Pequossette. Watertown’s Pequossette Summer Program Registration Starts Soon

Registration for the 2021 Pequossette Summer Program begins Friday, May 21, and the Watertown Recreation Department provided the following information. The Watertown Recreation Department is offering the 52nd year of the PequossetteSummer Program to children who are entering grades one through eight in September 2021. Activities are scheduled on a rotating basis with flexibility for special events. Thechildren will participate in arts & crafts, drama, music, sports, physical education as well asactive and quiet games. See What’s Available in Watertown Recs’ Winter II Session

The Watertown Recreation Department is offering sports programs, science lessons and crafts during the Winter II session, which starts Feb. 22. Activities include Cops ‘N’ Rec, the Survivor Series, and sports programs for children in grades K-12, as well as adults. Children in grades 3-5 can join the Wicked Gross Science Lessons, and Crafts and Games is available for students in grades K-2. A variety of sports offerings are available for students in all grades, including Junior Raiders, Sports Saturdays and the Survivor Series, which includes activities such as snowshoeing, flag football, futsal soccer, obstacle courses, relay races, mini Olympics, hiking, and street hockey.

FEBRUARY VACATION PLANS ANNOUNCED: FEBRUARY 16th – 19th (TUESDAY – FRIDAY)

A mini version of very popular February Vacation Program will be offered from February 16 – 19 at the Watertown Boys and Girls Club.  We will offer 8 separate 2 hour sessions, 2 a day geared for different ages and interests. We are still accepting snow shoveling removal program recipients but are really in need of shovelers.  If you are a Middle, High School or even a College student looking for community service, volunteerism and a stipend through the generosity of the Marshall Home Fund, please fill out the application and send it in to the Recreation Department. BUCKINGHAM, BROWNE & NICHOLS SUMMER CAMP SCHOLARSHIP

Our friends at Buckingham Browne & Nichols School is again offering a generous scholarship opportunity for their fantastic Summer Camp.

UPDATE: Dozens of Pairs of Shoes Donated by Watertown Native, Rec. Dept. Will Distribute

Watertown native Robert Marra with Peter Centola, who was Marra’s fold coach at WHS and is now Director of Watertown’s Recreation Department. Marra donated 60 pairs of shoes to the Town, which will give them away to residents. (Updated Jan. 13, 2021 at 8:45 a.m.)

Watertown residents can get a free pair of shoes thanks to a Watertown native who wanted to help his hometown. Robert Marra works and lives in Ashland now, but he grew up in Town.
