Mental Health Support Group Meeting in Newton Wellesley Hospital

Mental Illness support group: NAMI Family Support Group is a free, structured, confidential peer-led support group for family members, caregivers and loved ones of individuals living with mental illness.  
A support group will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 7:30-9 p.m. at Newton Wellesley Hospital’s main building at 2014 Washington Street in Newton, on the second floor of the Bowles Conference Center. This is organized by the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI).

Two Watertown Doctors Make Boston Magazine’s Top Doctors List

Watertown has two doctors who made the list of “Top Doctors” released by Boston magazine. 

The list of the region’s top doctors is in Boston magazine’s December 2017 edition. The Top Doctor guide names has doctors in almost every medical specialty in  several Massachusetts communities. in just about every medical specialty.  
The two Watertown doctors to make the list were David J. Cancian and Susan P. Pauker. Cancian specializes in internal medicine and works at Watertown Primary Care on Mt. Auburn Street.

Hundreds Greet Santa Claus at 2017 Watertown Tree Lighting

Hundreds of small children, parents and people just looking to share the Season’s spirit converged on Watertown Square Friday evening for the annual Watertown Tree Lighting Ceremony. Anticipation was thick in the air as youngsters waited for Santa Claus. At about 5:15 p.m. he rolled up in a Watertown Fire Department SUV with red and white lights flashing. Children looked on in awe as he waved and patted a few kids on the head. Santa posed for some pics before heading over to the tree decorated in Christmas lights and ornaments.

Public Invited to Join Watertown Veterans’ Pearl Harbor Observance

On Thursday Dec. 7, 2017, The Watertown Veterans Council will be hosting a Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day Ceremony located at the Charles River Dock, Watertown, the Watertown Veterans Office announced. The ceremony will begin at 12 p.m. and last approximately 30 minutes. Please join us in supporting our World War II Veterans as this meaningful event is open to everyone.

Watertown Group Hosts Presentation on Forced Removal of Native American Children

The World in Watertown announced their upcoming event at First Parish Church on Dec. 7 about the history of White Supremacy and the impact on Native Americans in New England. The group sent out the following information:

Presentation on Origins of White Supremacy in New England: On Thursday, December 7, 2017, World in Watertown is hosting Dr. Mishy Lesser, Watertown resident and learning director of Upstander Project, for a talk entitled “Forced Removal of Native Children and the Origins of White Supremacy in New England.” The talk will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the First Parish of Watertown, 35 Church St., Watertown. Dr. Lesser will screen Upstander Project’s short documentary, First Light, about the Maine Wabanaki Child Welfare Truth and Reconciliation Commission and what the commissioners learned from Wabanaki people who suffered loss of identity and trauma after being taken away by the state’s child welfare system.

Watertown Senior Center Holding Holiday Boutique Next Week

Come down to the Watertown Senior Center to purchase items for the holidays, including handmade knitted items, jewelry, ornaments and holiday décor. Friends of the Watertown Council on Aging Holiday Boutique will be held on Monday, December 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Watertown Church Hosting Holiday Art Show & Sale With Activities and Demos

Looking for unique, one-of- a-kind gift items this holiday season? Saturday,
December 2, 2017, members and friends of the First Parish of Watertown will host their annual Holiday Art Show & Sale, organizers announced. The hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the First Parish church, 35 Church Street in Watertown Square. More than 20 artists and crafters, along with the church’s youth group, will showcase a wide array of fine arts and crafts. Included will be paintings, photography, pottery, candles, jewelry, woven items and more.
