Boston Marathon Organizers Offering Refunds to Entrants

The organizers of the Boston Marathon announced that refunds will be offered for those who decide not to participate in the rescheduled race in September. The deadline to accept or reject the refund is May 29, 2020. Also, the B.A.A. 5K has been postponed to Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020. The following information was provided by the B.A.A.:

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has announced that participants in the 2020 Boston Marathon, which was originally scheduled for April 20, 2020 but postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, may elect to receive a refund for entry fees associated with the Boston Marathon.

Watertown Cheerleaders Qualify for State Championships

Watertown High School’s cheerleading team took second place in the Div. 4 North Regionals and qualified for States. Watertown High School’s cheerleaders reached heights that few squads from town have in the past, qualifying for the Winter Cheerleading State Championship. The team had two straight successful competitions and had hoped to continue that momentum with another award-winning performance at States, but on Thursday the MSAA announced the State Championships in Worcester have been cancelled. Two weeks ago, the Raiders took first place at the Shawsheen Invitational two weeks ago, and then finished in second place at the Div.

WHS Girls Basketball Seniors Helped Rebuild the Program

The five graduating seniors on the Watertown High School girls basketball team, from left, Ashley Shaughnessey, Milagros Ortiz, Brianna Williams, Brittany Catsoulis and Annabella Beck. The season ended miles from home for the Watertown High School girls basketball team when they fell at Amesbury in the State Tourney, and suddenly a long journey they had taken together ended. But the four year trek was a successful one. WHS girls basketball head coach Patrick Ferdinand said the end of the season is always hard, and this year’s group of five seniors helped reestablish Watertown as a team to reckon with. When they were sophomores, Watertown only won one game, but they not only qualified for the tournament in their junior and senior years, but won a game each year.

Watertown Challenger Baseball Seeks “Buddies” to Help Athletes

The Watertown Challenger Baseball program allows children special needs to participate in little league. Watertown Youth Baseball announced it is seeking buddies to help the athletes this season:

Late Swampscott Goal Sinks Watertown’s Hopes in the Hockey State Tourney

Watertown tried to tie the Div. 3 North quarterfinal after a late goal gave Swampscott the lead. STONEHAM — The season came to an abrupt halt for the Watertown High School boys hockey team Monday night when Swampscott scored a goal to go ahead in the final minute of the MIAA Div. 3 North quarterfinal and win 2-1. The teams battled the game at Stoneham Arena, and both had chances, but few found the back of the net.

Watertown Exits Tournament After Frantic Comeback Falls Short

Watertown senior Devon Breen battles two Hamilton-Wenham defenders in the MIAA Div. 3 North Section quarterfinal. A huge second-half comeback fell just short for the Watertown boys basketball team, and the Raiders lost at home to Hamilton-Wenham, 45-41, Sunday afternoon. The fourth-seeded Watertown (16-6) faced a 12 point halftime deficit in the MIAA Div. 3 North Section Quarterfinal against the fifth-seeded Generals.

The Raiders made the long trip to Amesbury Friday night, and had a good start, but ended up losing 49-31 to the second seed in the Div.

Watertown Boys Hockey Beats Rockport to Book Trip to North Quarterfinals

WOBURN — Watertown’s boys hockey team struck once in each period and held Rockport/Manchester-Essex scoreless until late in MIAA Div. 3 North first round game to claim the 3-1 victory, Thursday night. Watertown senior forward Keith Ricci lead the fifth-seeded Raiders with two goals. The victory moves the Raiders to the North quarterfinals, the round where they exited the tournament last year in an overtime loss to Dracut/Tyngsboro.
