Restaurants Won’t be Allowed to Automatically Include Plastic Utensils Under New Ordinance

A new ordinance approved by the City Council prohibits restaurants from automatically including plastic utensils with takeout orders, however customers can request these items when they order or pick up their food.

After receiving questions about and requests to protect immigrants in Watertown in recent weeks, City Council President Mark Sideris emphasized the steps being taken by the City to provide safety and security, but said he does not favor the City Council passing a resolution or executive order regarding immigrants in Watertown.

Watertown Eco Fest will Feature Sustainable Vendors, Demonstrations & Activities for All Ages

The second annual Watertown Eco Fest will feature activities including electric bike test rides, vendors of sustainable products, activities for kids, and more. The event, hosted by the City of Watertown, will also include representatives from City departments and community organizations focused on sustainability.

MBTA Announces Recommendations to Improve Safety for Riders, Staff

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and its Fiscal and Management Control Board (FMCB) accepted a report from the MBTA Safety Review Panel on Dec. 9 that offers 34 recommendations with 61 corrective actions to improve safety for MBTA riders and staff.

The Watertown Free Public Library (WFPL) wants to hear from you. From now until Feb. 14, 2020, community members are invited to participate in a user survey. Feedback from this survey will be used to create the next WFPL Long Range Plan which will cover FY22-FY26.

Architects designing Watertown’s new elementary schools are searching for enough space to place solar panels to make them net zero energy schools, however the biggest challenge to meeting the energy efficiency mark could be the project budget.
