BOSTON — The Raiders faced a talented Boston Latin Academy team, but Watertown girls basketball coach Pat Ferdinand said that his team remained cool under pressure and pulled away for the 46-36 win. The winter sports season headed to the postseason, and Watertown had several teams competing in state competitions. Trio of Wrestlers Compete at Divisional Meet
After a successful Div. 3 Central Section meet, Watertown sent several wrestlers to the Div. 3 Meet in Wayland. Junior Davtyan went 1-2 in the meet in the 145 pound class, winning the first consolation bracket match with a pin after falling in the first round match.
Watertown senior guard Gevork Karapetyan and the Raiders got the fourth seed in the Div. 3 North Section tournament and will host a first round game. Watertown High School will have three teams in the state tournament brackets this winter, with both the boys and girls basketball teams along with the boys hockey team being seeded by the MIAA state committee on Friday. The Raiders boys basketball team took the highest seed, slotting in fourth in the Div. 3 North Section bracket.

Despite losing the regular season finale, the Watertown High School boys basketball team looks poised for the State Tournament. Before the 68-42 loss to Winchester Tuesday night, the Raiders had a nine game winning streak. Watertown ended the regular season with a record of 15-6, and Head Coach Steve Harrington expects the Raiders to get a three or four seed in the MIAA Div. 3 North tournament.
“We will get a home game and hopefully we’ll win and get a second game,” Harrington said.
Wrestlers get pointers from WHS Wrestling Coach Kevin Russo at a recent practice. The Watertown High School wrestlers hung with some of the best in the region at the MIAA Div. 3 Central Sectional Meet, with two wrestlers taking third place, and three qualifying for the Divisional Meet. Watertown finished sixth overall with 115 points at the meet at Holliston High School on Saturday. Wayland won with 248.5 points.

Watertown High School’s field hockey team quickly took the suspense out of Thursday’s state tournament game against 16th seed Tewksbury by tallying two goals in the first 2:02. The Raiders won the first round matchup 6-0. Senior Ally Kennedy led top-seeded Watertown’s powerful offensive display, scoring a hat trick in the first half, including the first two goals.
