Watertown Cable Wins Two Hometown Media Awards

WCA-TV is excited to announce that we have received two Hometown Media Awards from the Alliance for Community Media Foundation. The awards program was established to honor and promote community media, community radio, and local cable programs that are distributed on Public, Educational and Governmental (PEG) access cable television channels. Proceeds go to the ACM Foundation which is exclusively used for facilitating, preserving and promoting education in community media. WCA-TV news producer, Dan Hogan, has won the Community Event Activism/Rallies award for his coverage of the 2021 Unity Breakfast. This award recognizes excellence in coverage of community events such as rallies or other events that are intended to bring about social or political change.

Watertown Cable Offering Range of Workshops This Spring

The following announcement was provided by Watertown Cable:

Watertown residents of all ages are invited to sign up for WCA-TV’s free in-person workshops, which will take place this Spring from the end of April through mid June. A few select remote workshops will also be available. These hands-on workshops range from learning how to produce your own tv show from start to finish, to creating and developing your own podcast. All in-person workshops will take place at our studio located at 50 Columbia Street in Watertown. Masks will be required indoors regardless of vaccination status.

Youth in Grades 6-12 Can Learn About TV Production at WCA-TV Workshop

The following information was provided by Watertown Cable Access TV:

WCA-TV invites youth grades 6 through 12 to participate in our first ever youth TV Production workshop! Learn all the steps to creating a television show from start to finish. In this workshop, students will put together a script, learn how to use our studio and control room equipment, and perform and produce a show from a topic of their choosing. The workshop will take place April 19th, 20th, and 21st from 12pm to 3pm. Enrollment is open through April 15th and will be on a first come, first served basis.

Hollywood Actor Promotes Fitness on Watertown Cable Access Series

Actor Cuyle Carvin, right, visited friend and Watertown Cable host/publicist Fred Grandinetti in Watertown recently. The following announcement was provided by Watertown Cable host Fred Grandinetti:

Film, television, video and theatre actor, Cuyle Carvin, recently performed with one of the heavy weights on the movie screen, Tom Cruise. The pair shared a scene in the motion picture, American Made, in 2017 which can be seen at:https://vimeo.com/251399859

Carvin is involved with a weight of another kind on a special episode of Drawing With Fred titled Cuyle Carvin’s Fitness Friends. While exercising with a weight he briefly interacts with Olive Oyl, Wimpy, Brutus and Popeye. The cartoon quartet are all trying to stay in shape with humorous results.

Celebrate Classic Cartoon Character’s 90th Birthday with Watertown Cable Special

Wimpy is celebrating a big birthday this year. This image is from “Egypt Us” (1960), one of the cartoons aired on the Watertown Cable special. “Drawing With Fred” host Fred Grandinetti provided the following piece:

The Watertown Cable Access Channel will be celebrating a milestone birthday of a comic strip character considered to be one of the greatest ever conceived; J. Wellington Wimpy! 

Wimpy is known for obtaining food by his wits. This is a cunning feat he has been performing in the Popeye comic strip since 1931. His catch phrase, “I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today” is known all over the world. He has also referred many boxing matches and often resorted to dishonest tricks for his own advantage. 

The moocher was created by cartoonist E.C. Segar.

Non-Profits Can Make a PSA at Watertown Cable Access TV

The following announcement was provided by Watertown Cable Access TV:

WCA-TV is bringing back PSA day! On Saturday, July 24th, we will be hosting our summer PSA day for non-profit organizations in Watertown. As a community service, the staff at WCA-TV will work with you to produce a PSA free of charge, all we ask is that you come in ready with an idea! All of the public service announcements can be one to two minutes in length and will be shown on WCA-TV’s channels. PSA’s will also be uploaded to our video on demand service so you can share it on your organization’s social media, website, and online outreach efforts.

Watertown Cable Offering Remote Workshops

The following announcement was provided by Watertown Cable:

WCA-TV will be offering remote workshops from March to May. Workshops will be available in two formats: Live webinar and Q&A. For the live webinar format, a WCA-TV instructor will teach a two hour workshop via Zoom. The deadline to sign up for these workshops is the Friday prior to the scheduled Zoom webinar (with the exception of holidays). For the Q&A format, attendees will be sent an instructional video to watch in preparation for in-person training and a one hour Q&A session via Zoom that will take place at a later date. The deadline to sign up for these workshops will be a few days prior to the in-person training sessions.
