Watertown Cable Offering Remote Workshops on Video Production

Watertown residents of all ages are invited to sign up for Watertown Cable Access Corporations remote workshops, which will take place during the months of October, November, and December. These workshops will be available in two formats: Live webinar and Q&A. For the live webinar format, a WCA-TV instructor will teach a two hour workshop via Zoom. The deadline to sign up for these workshops is the Friday prior to the scheduled Zoom webinar. For the Q&A format, attendees will be sent an instructional video to watch in preparation for a one hour Q&A session via Zoom that will take place at a later date.

Watertown Cable Debuts “Fresh” New Website, Features Include Closed Captioning

Watertown Cable Access Corp is pleased to announce an all new interactive website. The site www.wcatv.org has been revamped for 2020. There are new pages, new content and a whole new “fresh” feel to the site. The site is compatible with laptops, tablets, and mobile devices of all kinds.

Watertown Cable Show Celebrate’s Cartoon Character’s 60th Birthday

Brutus, Popeye the Sailor’s rival, celebrates his 60th birthday, and Watertown Cable’s Drawing With Fred has a special tribute. The following announcement was provided by Fred Grandinetti:

Popeye’s rival for the affection of Olive Oyl, Brutus, celebrates his 60th birthday this month. To honor the occasion The Watertown Channel will be airing a special selection of Brutus’ best cartoons. The films were selected by Popeye historian and Watertown Resident Fred M. Grandinetti. 

Grandinetti said it wasn’t easy deciding which cartoons to select. “I finally went with the episodes featuring unique plots and good animation.”

No Parade, But Watertown Cable Broadcasting Memorial Day Ceremony Featuring Veteran Interviews

The COVID-19 restrictions has cancelled the 2020 Watertown Memorial Day Parade, but the Town’s Veterans Agent and Watertown Cable are teaming up to broadcast a live ceremony on Monday. After the parade each year, a ceremony is held next to Town Hall. Veterans Agent Patrick George said he wanted to hold something like that this year, and teamed up with Watertown Cable to put on the live broadcast at noon on Monday, May 25. The featured speaker will be Watertown-native Lt. Col. Stephanie Cooper.

Recently Formed Business Group Highlighted on Watertown Cable Show

The Watertown Business Coalition recently came on the scene to take over some of the roles of the former Chamber of Commerce, and the group has already made a mark. The group was the focus of the most recent episode of the Inside Watertown show on Watertown Cable. The subject was a familiar one for co-hosts Charlie Breitrose and Bob Airasian, who have been involved in the Business Coalition’s leadership group. The group has hosted three in-person events, and recently held a virtual coffee connect. The guests on the episode (recorded remotely) were WBC co-founder Doug Orifice and Watertown Assistant Town Manager Steve Magoon, who talked about a project the Business Coalition worked on with Town of Watertown officials on a project to inform people about which restaurants are open during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Local Cable Station Collecting Food for the Watertown Food Pantry

This year WCA-TV announced it is putting on a food drive for the Watertown Food Pantry. The collection runs from March 16 to April 6, and will be ending in time for Passover and Easter. Drop off locations will be at the Watertown Cable studio, in the basement of Watertown High School, at the high school (50 Columbia St.), or at the Watertown Police Station (552 Main St.). The Watertown Pantry needs include: coffee, cold cereal, baked beans, canned vegetables, canned fruit, boxed oatmeal, tomato sauce and dried pasta and rice. Please do not donate opened or expired food.

Watertown Cable Show Finds Out the Latest with the Community Preservation Committee

In the latest episode of Watertown Cable show Inside Watertown, Elodia Thomas, second from right, and Lanae Handy (right) joined hosts John Airasian, left, and Charlie Breitrose to talk about the Community Preservation Committee. Two people deeply involved in Watertown’s Community Preservation Committee were the guests on the latest episode of Watertown Cable’s Inside Watertown. Elodia Thomas, chair of the Community Preservation Committee (CPC), and Lanae Handy, the CPC’s Community Preservation consultant, joined co-hosts Charlie Breitrose and John Airasian at the Watertown Cable Studio, recently. They talked about the latest happenings with the group who recommends how the town’s CPA funds are spent. The CPC recently held its first public forum (see video here), where attendees learned about what the CPA funds can be spent on, and then had the chance to gave ideas for projects they would like to see in Watertown.

The three people vying to be Watertown High School’s new principal were interviewed by Superintendent Dede Galdston last week, and Watertown Cable was there. Galdston said she hopes to make an appointment before the beginning of February Vacation. Each of the finalists came in a different day late last week.
