The Recreation Department has a huge range of activities for people of all ages this fall including tennis, kayaking, junior crafts, yoga, trampoline dodgeball and flag football to name a few. Watertown Church Hosting Blessing of the Backpacks

The Church of the Good Shepherd will hold a special outdoor mass with a blessing of the backpacks. The Mass on the Grass will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday Sept. 10 at the church, located at 19 Russell Ave. in Watertown. The service includes the Blessing of the Backpacks for students of ALL ages as well as teachers and professors.

Watertown High School Adding Swimming Teams for Girls and Boys

Watertown students will make a splash this year with the addition of girls and boys swimming teams to the WHS Athletic Department’s offerings. The girls team begins competing this fall, and the boys will hit the pool in the winter. Both teams will begin as co-op teams with Arlington High School, said WHS Athletic Director Michael Lahiff. The girls team will be based in Arlington, while the boys will be in Watertown at the Boys & Girls Club pool. The girls team also practiced at the pool in Watertown in August while the pool at the Arlington Boys and Girls Club underwent maintenance.

Mosquitoes in Watertown Test Positive for West Nile Virus, Tips for Avoiding Them

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) has notified the Watertown Health Department that mosquitoes in Watertown have tested positive for West Nile Virus, the Watertown Health Department announced. The Watertown Health Department sent out the following release:

This is not a surprise since most of the geographic area around Watertown has had species of mosquitoes testing positive. This is also consistent with having warm and intermittent wet weather. How can you prevent these mosquitoes from breeding on your property? The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project indicates that “homeowners should be aware that once a container is inundated with rainwater in the summer, it becomes a likely site for a mosquito to lay eggs on the water surface.

Find Out About the Watertown Boys & Girls Club at Open House

Watertown Boys & Girls Club will hold an open house on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 from 5-7 p.m., the club announced. Families interested in learning more about what the Club has to offer are encouraged to attend! Parents will be able to register or re-new their child’s school-year membership at that time. You can also register for membership or swim lessons by visiting

Watertown Police, Fire Collecting Items to Help People Hit by Houston Hurricane

The Watertown Police and Fire Departments will send a shipment of donations to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey in the Houston area. 

Donations will be collected until Monday, September 11. Items Needed:
