Watertown Field Hockey Returns to the State Final with Victory over Pentucket

READING — The Raiders are back where they have been so many times before — the field hockey State Final — after defeating Pentucket 1-0 on Wednesday night. The trip, however, will be the first for the current Watertown players. A goal by freshman Adrianna Williams 3:39 into the first quarter provided early breathing room for second seeded Watertown (22-0) in the MIAA Div.

Gov. Baker Visits Watertown Life Science Company to Celebrate Apprenticeship Program

Charlie Baker visited one of Watertown’s life science companies which is doing its part to train workers to participate in the creation of treatments for infectious diseases, inflammatory diseases and cancer through a new apprenticeship program partially funded by the state. Baker visited Arranta Bio on Pleasant Street on Tuesday to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week. He was joined by, among others, Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development Rosalin Acosta, and Governor’s Councilor Marilyn Petitto Devaney from Watertown. During the event, the Baker-Polito Administration announced $2.7 million in new grant funding for 19 organizations to support apprenticeship programs across Massachusetts.

MassDOTCross sections of Mt. Auburn Street with the “road diet” that removes one lane of traffic each way and ads turn lanes and bike lanes. The redesign of one of Watertown’s major roadways will include some significant changes to the look of the road, as well as improvements that state officials said would improve the road for motorists, transit users, bicyclists and pedestrians. The repaving and improvement of Mt. Auburn Street has been discussed for many years and officially got started by Watertown officials in 2009.

Young Watertown Dancer Performing in City Ballet of Boston’s “Urban Nutcracker”

Watertown dancer Caroline Marsh Zinser will be performing in the City Ballet of Boston’s “Urban Nutcracker” this December. The following announcement was provided by City Boston Ballet:

Anthony Williams’ Urban Nutcracker, the modern Boston-centric holiday classic presented byCity Ballet of Boston, celebrates its 20th season this December! The live in-person performances at the Boch Center Shubert Theatre showcase winter scenes set in present-day downtown Boston, blending the rhythms of Duke Ellington with the classical music of Tchaikovsky. Anchored by classical ballet, the performances also include a broad range of dance forms such as tap, hip-hop, flamenco, and jazz, accompanied by a 16-piece live orchestra of local musicians. Dancer and Watertown resident Caroline Marsh Zinser will be performing in the Boston holiday classic this season.

WHS Sports: Watertown Runner Makes Top 10 at Cross Country Meet, Swimmer Competes at States

Watertown’s runners and swimmers competed at the state level this weekend, showing they could compete with the best in the Bay State. Cross Country

The Watertown girls and boys cross country teams ran in the MIAA Div. 2 meet in Gardner on Saturday, and a sophomore placed among the top finishers. Anna Lonergan finished in eighth place in the girls Div. 2 race.

Police Log: Officers Talk Down Man Who Had Barricaded Himself in Room, Man Damages Washing Machine at Laundromat

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrest

Nov. 7, 12:31 a.m.: Watertown Police received a call about a disturbance at a home on Lyons Court, and when they arrived they found a man who appeared to be intoxicated who was causing the disturbance. The man was upset that someone had called police and barricaded himself in a room in the basement. Police learned that the man was wanted on four arrest warrants.

Four goals by sophomore Molly Driscoll led Watertown in its 6-0 defeat of Dover-Sherborn in Saturday’s MIAA Div. 3 Round of Eight Field Hockey Tournament game. The Raiders added another trophy to its vast collection of awards with Saturday morning’s win at Victory Field. With the MIAA doing away with the sections, the Raiders got a trophy for making the Final Four.
