Watertown Fire Department to Mark Anniversary of 9/11 with Remembrance Ceremony

The Watertown Fire Department will mark the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001 with a ceremony at the Fire Station on Main Street. The City of Watertown sent out the following announcement:

The Fire Department will hold a brief ceremony on Monday, Sept. 11, 2023 at Fire Station Headquarters, located at 99 Main St., to remember the 343 FDNY firefighters lost Sept. 11, 2001, along with thousands of innocent people on the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

Watertown Students Create 9/11 Tribute With Help of Public

Students from the Watertown Middle School’s Project 351 Team created a tribute to the Massachusetts residents lost on 9/11. A colorful arrangement of rocks sits in front of the Watertown Free Public Library, with each rock representing one of the 206 Massachusetts residents who lost their lives in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The installation was created by a group of Watertown students, who got a hand from the public, said Montserrat Llacuna, a freshman at Watertown High School who led the Middle School’s Project351 Watertown Team to create the tribute. Each of the 206 rocks were painted an have messages of hope, courage and support.

Students Need Help Creating Tribute to Mass. Residents Lost on 9/11

Watertown Free Public LibraryThe Watertown Free Public Library. A group of Watertown students will be creating a tribute to the Massachusetts residents who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, and they seek help from the public. The group will create the tribute at the Watertown Free Public Library, said Montserrat Llacuna, the 2022 Watertown Ambassador for Project 351 from Watertown Middle School, who is involved in the project. “Now that 9/11 is approaching, my team and I would like to pay tribute to the lives of the MA residents that were lost in the 9/11 attacks,” Llacuna said.

Each year since the attacks on the World Trade Center took the lives of hundreds of firefighters, the Watertown Fire Department has honored the sacrifices made on Sept. 11, 2001. This year, which marked the 20th anniversary, the ceremony drew dozens of people, who lined the sidewalk in front of the Watertown Fire Headquarters on Main Street.

The Watertown Fire Department will mark the 20th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001 on Saturday at the Main Fire Station. The Town of Watertown sent out the following information about the ceremony:

The Watertown Fire Department will be conducting a brief remembrance ceremony for the 20th Anniversary of 9/11 on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 9:55 a.m. at Fire Station Headquarters, 99 Main St., Watertown, MA. Everyone is welcome to attend. Plan of Events

9:55 a.m. – Apparatus roll out of bays to appropriate location in front of station.
