Watertown Boys & Girls Club Staffer Wins Award for Work During Pandemic

Watertown Boys & Girls ClubWatertown Boys & Girls Club Aquatics Director Erin Hickey, right, is congratulated for winning an award by Club Executive Director Renee Gaudette. A staff member at the Watertown Boys & Girls Club received an award for her work at the club. Aquatics Director Erin Hickey was named the Association of Boys & Girls Club Professionals Yankee Chapter Program Professional of the Year. Hickey began working at the club since she was age 15, and in 2019 she was promoted to Aquatics Director, said Renee Gaudette, Executive Director of the Watertown Boys & Girls Club. During the pandemic, Hickey was able to maintain a robust aquatics program.

After a year off due to the pandemic, the annual celebration returned to Watertown in 2021. In the first of three candidate forums for the Watertown Election, the candidates for Councilor At-Large will be appearing live at the virtual event on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m.

The forum will be broadcast live on Watertown Cable Access TV, and also the public can join on Zoom. It is co-hosted by Watertown News and Watertown Cable. The moderator will be Jim Vershbow, co-anchor of the Watertown Weekly News on Watertown Cable. The Councilors At-Large are elected by the entire town.

Family & Friends Celebrate Memory of Girl Who Built Strong Friendships, Inspired People in Her Lifetime

Charlie BreitroseFriends of Lora Karaguesian sit on the Buddy Bench at Hosmer School dedicated in her memory. Watertown’s Lora Karaguesian’s life was cut short, but in her 11 years she made many close friendships and lasting memories. Recently, her family and friends gathered to remember her big smile and bright personality, and leave a lasting memorial at her old elementary school. On Sept. 18, a bench with a plaque in Lora’s memory was dedicated by more than 30 family members and friends.

Customers can also enjoy entertainment including face painting and a DJ along with a prize wheel to win products and reusable bags. In addition, both stores are introducing grocery Pickup service to provide residents with a more efficient and convenient way to shop.

The End of An Era: Russo’s Closes for the Last Time, Thanks for the Memories

Several years ago, when my wife and I had dinner with some of our friends, we discussed one of the hypothetical situations: would you want to know that you are about to eat the best meal in your life, with the catch that no other meal would ever rise to that level. That question came to mind for me recently as I realized that the last days of Russo’s market were approaching. Tucked away on one end of town, I used to think of the store as one of those hidden gems that make Watertown so special.
